History
Thousands of prospectors arrived in South Park due to the discovery of gold in 1859. The area became territorial and latecomers who were unwelcome were forced to push further west. A new mining town called “Fair Play” was then created. This town quickly prospered and became the county seat in 1867. Today, Fairplay is a vibrant mountain community that continues to grow and flourish.
